"The artist, however faithful to [their] personal vision of reality, becomes the last champion of the individual mind and sensibility against an intrusive society and an officious state."
- Ursula K. Le Guin

Sapele Wood, Heat-Bent Steel & CementA park bench on Evan's Way Park fell into disrepair and eventually disappeared completely. In response to the lack of repair or replacement, I fabricated and installed my own. Minimal detailing counters the hostile architecture that has become ubiquitous in public spaces. Without armrests or dividers, it invites one to lay down and take a nap, or spend the night. An intentional gap beneath the seat provides dry storage, acknowledging the needs of those who rely on public infrastructure beyond brief moments of leisure. The maintenance crew, rather than removing it, regularly paints over it in an effort to erase the graffiti left by parkgoers. Change over time has been regularly documented by parkgoers and archived.
