"The artist, however faithful to [their] personal vision of reality, becomes the last champion of the individual mind and sensibility against an intrusive society and an officious state."
- Ursula K. Le Guin

Nice Things Anyway

Documentation by Bentonio Soja

Produced and performed in collaboration with my mother, Nice Things Anyway tells the story of a man working through immense childhood trauma as he faces isolation in the face of a system that aims to criminalize and incarcerate him for his emotional instability. The lyrical content of the piece is accompanied by instrumental playback, live soundwork, and digitally recolorized images of coral bleaching filmed off the coast of Roatan, Honduras, projected onto a fabricated curtain of scrim through which the performers can pass.
